Oct. 10-11: Camp, Paddle and Hike at Little Manatee River State Park
We’ll carpool to the west coast of Florida and do a paddle, about 5 miles, on Saturday.  Camp overnight. On Sunday we’ll do a 7 mile loop hike. Contact Rodney or park for reservations- 4 sites are reserved.  The Little Manatee River begins in a swampy area near Fort Lonesome and flows almost 40 miles before emptying into Tampa Bay. The river has been designated an Outstanding Florida Water and is part of the Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve. Wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy hiking through the park’s northern wilderness area. Little Manatee River State Park is located four miles south of Sun City Center. Cost: Approx. $15.00 per person RSVP Rodney: (321) 436-2349 (Fla. Trail Outing)

Oct. 17th: Hike & Picnic along the Econ River
Between the ever-expanding metropolis of Orlando and the great Atlantic Ocean lies an area of Florida which is almost as undisturbed as it was centuries ago. Between State Roads 46 and 50, the serpentine Econlockhatchee River winds eastward through pristine wetlands and ancient forest of giant oaks and cypress, eventually feeding into the north-flowing St. Johns River.  Bring lunch and we’ll hike 5 miles round trip to the Econ River. We’ll meet at the Snow Hill Rd. parking area (call/email for directions) and we will hike down to the bridge for lunch. RSVP: Mary-Slater (407) 481-4398 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Oct. 18th: Exploratory Kayak Trip on the Dora Canal
Want to join us as we explore a new paddling trail? This will be our first voyage so no guarantees on what we’ll find but you are welcome to join us. The Dora Canal is just under a mile of pristine, “Old Florida” paddling. It’s well shaded with lots of wildlife. The most well-known waterway in Lake County was penned in the 1930s by a leading sports writer as “the most beautiful mile of water in the world.” Lined with towering cypress trees that are draped with Spanish moss, the Dora Canal is a safe haven for nesting ospreys, herons and egrets. In the 1830s, the canal was not only popular for its natural beauty, but because the mile-long connection linked the two important lakes of Dora and Eustis. Bordering the two lakes are the cities of Eustis, Tavares and Mount Dora. Together the municipalities form the Golden Triangle area of Lake County. Each city sports its own heritage and quaint downtown district.  Directions: Heading south on U.S. Highway 441 to Mount Dora, turn right onto Donnelly Street. Take Donnelly Street 1.8 miles to Charles Avenue. Turn left on Charles Avenue and follow 0.2 mile to Gilbert Park.
