With a 3000 foot boardwalk winding through wetlands, this park primarily offers scenic hiking trails. The boardwalk ends at Lake Apopka. Bring lunch, and on the way back we’ll stop at a picnic pavilion on the lake and eat. 10 miles roundtrip. If you don’t want to ride your bike, meet us at 10:30 a.m. at the preserve. See our article about the Preserve in the Nov/Dec issue of the Sierran.

Nov. 15th: Bike Seminole-Wekiva Trail
The Seminole–Wekiva Trail is a “Rails to Trails” project, built on the former Orange Belt Railway which once ran all the way to St. Petersburg. At a distance of 117 miles, it was the longest narrow gauge railroad in the country until 1897. The Orange Belt Railway operated from 1885 to the early part of the 20th century. Wekiva Trail now has a semi-rural feel to it. Pretty lakes are scattered on beautiful landscapes dotted with the resident cows roaming around --in spite of chain stores just across the street. We’ll cycle a total round trip of 20 miles. Meet at the San Sabastian Trailhead on Hwy 436 at 9:30 a.m. We will cross under 434 in the new tunnel, then head on to Lake Mary Blvd
where will eat lunch and then ride back.
Cost: free. RSVP: Rodney (321) 436-2349 or
