Transportation
Our every day lives revolve around
transportation choices and clogged roadways. The Sierra Club Central
Florida Group supports transportation options that minimize dangerous
carbon emissions and impacts to land, airspace and the waterways of Central
Florida. Walking, bicycling and public
transit alternatives minimize the consumption of limited resources such as
fuel and reduce noise pollution. The Central Florida Group will encourage land use patterns that minimize travel requirements to provide pedestrians, bicyclist and public transit use with adequate access to jobs, shopping, services and recreation. Rail systems are most effective in stimulating compact development patterns and corridors that reduce motor vehicle use and provide protection of public conservation lands, habitat diversity, and water resource protection. We will encourage the revitalization or retrofitting of existing communities to achieve these qualities and to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors to Central Florida.
