I joined the Sierra Club in 1972 while I was a student at UCLA and was initially very active leading bike rides, hikes, and camping and backpacking trips in the Angeles NF and the Sierras.
I became active in the Transportation Committee for the Sierra Club in the late 1980's when I noticed a lack of bike friendly roads in Central Florida. My first successes took at least 5 years but eventually I changed the mindset of local government leaders to include either wide outer lanes or bike lanes on most new arterial and collector roads and build a multicounty bike trail system.
Since then, I have served on several planning boards and pressed to improve bus service and build light, high speed, and commuter rail lines in Central Florida.
When I am not working transportation issues, I still love hiking, biking, canoeing and other outdoor activities.
I often go with my wife Carolyn, mother-in-law Lois, and my dogs Kupa and Bentley to our vacation house in the NE Georgia mountains in Skylake which has a beautiful waterfall, lots of hiking trails, and several lakes.
